Tra Vinh warns farmers of overproduction of shallots

During recent days, traders are flocking to Truong Long Hoa Commune in Tra Vinh Province’s Duyen Hai Town to buy shallots.

Mrs. Tran Thi My Nuong, vice chairwoman of the People’s Committee of Truong Long Hoa Commune, said that the price of shallot was at VND24,000-25,000 per kilogram last month. However, since early November, shallot price has risen to VND33,000-34,000 per kilogram. Local farmers have grown shallots on an area of 160 hectares in the 2015 season. Although shallot currently is out of season, it still gives high productivity. Therefore, several farmers have been expanding the area of shallots.

Local authorities warned farmers not to grow shallots massively so as to prevent overproduction which might cause shallot price to fall.
