Nguyen Thi Quyet Tam, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Council and representatives of relevant authorities also visited the tunnel site.
The Thu Thiem Tunnel, an extension of the East-West Highway project, lies at a depth of 26 metres under the Saigon River bed.
The entire 1.5 kilometre tunnel has been constructed with three main sections; a 585 meter long approach tunnel towards District 1, a 535 metre long approach tunnel towards District 2 and a 370 metre long main section with four lanes.
