Many items most made in Vietnam have even seen the price reduce at Thu Duc, Hoc Mon, Binh Dien wholesales markets and Ben Thanh market.

Traders at Thu Duc market said that they have stockpiled commodities double and triple over normal to meet Tet demand. The price just slightly increases by about VND500 a kilogram or remains unchanged.

Director of Hoc Mon wholesale market Nguyen Tien Dung reported supply 14 percent up over normal reaching 2,900 tons a day, which is expected to hit 3,200 tons from now until the New Year day.

Vegetables and fruits supply will reduce on the last two days of the lunar year but pork will hit its peak of 800 tons, up 135 percent over normal, he forecast.

95 percent of goods sold at the market are made in Vietnam, 4 percent from China and 1 percent from other nations, he added. Prices have been steady partly thanks to petrol price cuts recently.

Director of Binh Dien market Tran Thuy Lien said their goods volume has surged by 100 tons to top 2,300 tons a day and would further increase to 3,400-3,600 tons in two days before Tet.

Because of abundant stockpiling, prices have not fluctuated much excluding some items usually in much demand during Tet such as seafood and fruits whose prices might inch up a little, she said.

Talking to representatives of market management boards, Mr. Khoa appreciated their efforts in preparing goods to keep prices stable in the Tet holidays.

He asked them to keep a close eye on market demand to maintain sufficient supply. Besides they should implement measures to ensure food hygiene and safety and comply with fire regulations.
