According to the preliminary report of the survey program and camera trap, there are around 13-17 individuals of gaur living in the core and buffer zone of Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park. Particularly, there are around 7-10 gaur individuals in Rao Con Village in Son Trach Commune, 4-5 individuals in Khe Tru and Khe Trieng regions of Phuc Trach and Bo Trach communes; and two individuals in Khe Thi regions of Thuong Trach Commune in Minh Hoa District.
In addition, research program of experts from the Management Board of Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park also recorded about 11-15 gaur individuals at Rao May and Doc May in Truong Son Commune of Quang Ninh District and 5-6 individuals in Giang Man mountainous region in Minh Hoa District. The camera trap also captured gaur individuals in the region behind Rao Con Village.
