Singapore PM to visit Vietnam

Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will have a four-day visit to Vietnam from January 12 to discuss economic relations and step up investment resources of his country in Vietnam.

Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will have a four-day visit to Vietnam from January 12 to discuss economic relations and step up investment resources of his country in Vietnam.

During the visit at the invitation of the Vietnamese PM Nguyen Tan Dung, Lee is scheduled to attend the ground breaking ceremony of the Singapore-funded industrial zone VSIP in the north city of Hai Phong.

Leaders of the both sides will negotiate on the admission of Vietnam into the Trans-Pacific Strategic Economic Partnership Agreement (TPP, previously known as ‘P4’) co-founded by Brunei, Chile, New Zealand and Singapore.

Applicants Vietnam, the United States, Australia, and Peru will kick off negotiations with the quartet in March 2010.

Vietnamese authorities will also consult with Mr. Lee ideas for commercial cooperation, enhancement in investment management, as well as urban control.

The Singaporean government chief will also meet the Communist Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh and President Nguyen Minh Triet of Vietnam before addressing Singaporean community in Vietnam as well.

This marks the third time PM Lee Hsien Loong visits Vietnam after the first one in 2000 as deputy PM and the second time in 2004.
