The Mekong Delta exported over 487,700 tons of pangasius fish, a year on year increase of 28 percent, with the value reaching $1.47 billion accounting for over 30 percent of the country’s seafood export value.
Shrimp export in the region hit $3.2 billion, up 20 percent over the same period last year.
The US, Japan, China and South Korea are the four largest import markets of Vietnamese seafood products, accounting for 58.2 percent of total seafood export value.
In addition, seafood export has been on the rise to new markets such as Israel, Turkey, Brazil and the Philippines with the average growth rate of 66.7 percent compared to the same period last year.
According to the ministry, domestic pangasius and shrimp prices have been on the rise. Consumption in some major markets has been stable.
