President meets outstanding students in North

President Nguyen Minh Triet May 31 met students from Bac Ninh Province’s Yen Phong District who had overcome difficulties to achieve good results in their studies on the occasion of International Children’s Day (June 1) at the Presidential Palace in Hanoi.

Speaking at the meeting, Triet said children’s gratitude for the love shown to them by parents and teachers must turn into significant contributions to their country.

Children should always proud of the country’s traditions and the sacrifices previous generations made for the freedom they now enjoy.

Triet said more children experienced far better conditions in which to study and learn than was the case in the past. He also advised them to behave well for their parents and families as well as their teachers and schools.

He also hopes that children in the district and the rest of the province would follow their example.

The President sent his best wishes to the children in the capital and throughout the country.

On the same day, President Triet participated in a meeting to cerebrate the 55th anniversary of the Hanoi Children’s Palace (1/6/1955 – 1/6/2010).

Addressing at the meeting, the President Triet praised the palace’s achievements over the past 55 years as a place that organized entertainment and training activities for children.

Founded in 1955, the Ha Noi Children's Palace is a centre that focuses on developing children's skills.

Currently the palace serves about 40,000 children annually.

The palace now organizes classes in 64 subjects in the fields of art, sport, language and technology. It also connects benefactors to poor children through charity programs.

In related news, Dutch Lady Vietnam organized a festival day for children with many activities and games such as fishing and playing at the Can Tho City Children Palace.

An Giang Province Labor Union visited and offered 92 gifts and distributed 1,000 notebooks to children at a handicapped school and a center for the elderly and orphaned children.

In response to Children’s Month 2010, Vinh Long City coordinated with Co.op Mart supermarkets to organize a Children Drawing Contest with participation of 108 children from 6-13 years old.
