Khanh Hoa police arrested two men July 5 suspected of murdering a teacher at her own private home on June 23, as part of a plot to repay gambling debts.
The suspects arrested, Nguyen Duc Dung, 19 and Tran Van Tan, 20, are both neighbors of the slain teacher Nguyen Thi To Nga.
According to Dung and Tan, they often come to public bar to gamble on football matches. However, they lost and resorted to theft.
They knew their neighbor always wore fancy jewelry and used an expensive mobile phone. Apparently, they decided to rob her.
To carrying out the dark design, they broke into the house on June 23 to kill Nga, stealing all her jewelry including three gold rings, a necklace, plus her mobile phone and bicycle.
After killing the teacher, they went to Dam market in Nha Trang City, Khanh Hoa Province seeking to sell the stolen goods. They next boarded a bus bound for Phan Rang City, Ninh Thuan Province.
