As the politburo is set to submit a report on the preparations for the signing of the TPP to the Party Central Committee, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong said the committee members should scrutinise the outcomes of the TPP negotiations and analyse the trade deal's impact.

He said the participants should give their opinions about the signing of the TPP and the submission of the pact to the National Assembly for approval. The design of the implementation plans also needed to be closely looked at, he said.

Viet Nam and 11 other Asia-Pacific countries concluded more than five years of negotiations on the TPP on October 5, 2015. The deal is a new-generation free trade agreement (FTA), with the requirements being stricter than existing FTAs and covering both trade and investment issues and related matters.

Regarding personnel issues, following the outcome of the two previous meetings of the Party Central Committee, the sub-committee on personnel and the politburo are to propose additional special candidates who are members of the 11th Party Central Committee for positions in the politburo and party secretariat in the 12th tenure.

General Secretary Trong said the participants should thoroughly consider the politburo's proposals, and appraise and finalise the 11th Party Central Committee's personnel-related report, set to be submitted to the 12th National Party Congress that would take place in late January.

He also asked for nominations to the four key leading positions in the 12th tenure.

The 14th meeting was of critical importance as it would decide the final preparations for the 12th National Party Congress, the leader said, while demanding a high sense of responsibility among the participants to fulfill the agenda
