An overloaded truck carrying 30 tons of broken rice collapsed the Bailley Bridge in Tan Thanh hamlet of Tan Bien District in Tay Ninh Province on June 20 as it was crossing over it.
The incident caused traffic congestion along the road as sacks of rice spilled all over the bridge and into the stream.
The 44.5 meter long bridge caved in with the weight of the truck and pushed the truck to hang head downwards into the stream.
The Department of Transport said that it will construct a temporary bridge immediately to ease the traffic till the bridge can be repaired again.
The Bailley Bridge had maximum load capacity of 15 tons and connected Hoa Hiep Commune in Chau Thanh District, Tan Binh Commune in Tan Bien District and the Tan Nam-Mean Chay border gate, which is an important meeting point for farmers of Vietnam and Cambodia to exchange agricultural produce.
