The Department of Health in Ho Chi Minh City yesterday started a campaign to give kids below 5 year old free polio vaccine.
As per the plan, toddlers in districts 12, Go Vap, Hoc Mon, Thu Duc, Binh Chanh, Tan Phu and Binh Tan have chance to receive free polio vaccine
Under the campaign, it is scheduled that more than 200,000 children will receive polio vaccine in preschools and local medical centers.
The campaign has two phases; the first one starts from March 1 to 9 and the second is from April 10 to 12.
Dr. Le Hong Nga, head of the Planning Ward of the municipal Preventive Medicine Center said that before Vietnam used OPV vaccine which has three tubes, yet, medical experts in the world supposed to be unnecessary to take three; therefore this time children will take two tubes of vaccine and they will receive one more in the National Expanded Immunization Program.
The campaign is the final phase that the city gives polio vaccine to kids below 5.
Along with free polio vaccination campaign, the city will conduct measles-rubella immunization. In 2014 and 2015, the city has implemented measles-rubella vaccination for children from one to 14 years old. The city will continue to inject measles-rubella vaccine for the group of children from 16 and 17 year old.
