Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung and representatives from the Ministry of Transport and the Bac Lieu Province People’s Committee attended the opening ceremony.

The new South Hau River road is paved with asphalt concrete and has 39 crossover bridges. The project started in 2005 with a total investment of VND3,296 billion (US$158 million).

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Deputy PM Hung said the new route would create favorable conditions for vital transportation of goods from the Mekong Delta region and other regions of the south.

He added that the route would contribute greatly to securing the Mekong Delta region. The South Hai River road would facilitate traffic demands in the region and boost the development of industry, agriculture and tourism in the entire south-western region.
