According to the Ministry of Public Security on August 21, parental information will not be required any more on the new Identity Cards that were issued effective from July 1, 2012.

The new ID cards recently stirred a controversy as the ministry proposed to display, in addition to personal identification details of the card holder such as date of birth, gender, nationality, permanent residence, distinguishing features and fingerprints, also the names of parents of the card holder.
Some people said that for citizens who are born in highly respectable families, including parents names on ID’s would be very helpful for them, while there were some who said that people born to parents involved in criminal offences or associated with other scandals will face negative treatment from people.
The ministry is listening to all ideas from people before final consideration of the new Identity Cards.
