Couples Vo Van Lu in Lap Vo District receives VND8 million ($352) monthly from their daughter who has been working in Taiwan. Mr. Lu said they live on farming so they just make ends meet.
In 2016, their daughter being a state employee with low salary decided to quit job for finding jobs in Taiwan where she has been working for a mobile phone accessory manufacturer. She sends the amount of VND8 million monthly so her parents’ live is easier.
Another example also makes rich from labor export. 26 year old Le Nhut Truong in Cao Lanh Town said that after his graduation from Can Tho University, he thought about labor export immediately, accordingly in 2014, he applied for a job in mechanical company in Japan. After three years of hard work, he saved a large sum of nearly VND1 billion ($ 44,013).
Truong said besides work time, he makes time best by studying Japanese for preparation of his future. Therefore, after the expiry of his contract , he was admitted to be a Japan teacher for those who wish to go abroad for labor export in a employment service center when he returned his fatherland in February.
Nguyen Van Nguyen in Lai Vung District said farmers toil away for their living on farms yet they hardly make rich by living on farms because of precarious price; for instance, bumper crop of farm commodities sends prices falling and vice versa.
He continued while he struggled to find a way to make money, he was consulted to send his children to work in foreign countries which pay high salary; hence, he agreed. This decision is really a turning point of his family because he has comfortable life later and build new house from money his kids sent back.
Head of the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs Ms. Dang Thi Nguyet said labor export brings “a breath of fresh air” in countryside districts. So far, over 40 new houses have been built from money of their children who work in foreign countries. Moreover, many families escaped poverty line.
According to the employment service center under the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, since the beginning of the year, around 1,500 locals signed contracts to work in foreign countries with over 1,000 people to Japan and the remaining to South Korea and Taiwan. It is scheduled in 2017, the province will send 1,600 to work in abroad countries.
Dong Thap province is becoming a leading province in the Mekong delta in sending people to work in alien countries.
Director of the employment service center Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Tuyet said at the end of 2014, the province Party and People’s Committee developed a policy regime to promote and regulate labor emigration pointing out sending people to work in abroad is major mission because it both offers employment and improves laborers’ income and contributes to eliminate poverty when laborers send money home.
In addition, laborers who are trained in abroad demonstrate moral fortitude, hard work, improve their skills and have good discipline in work. They are good workforce for the country’s industrialization.
To facilitate people in paperwork, the Party and People’s Committee sent document to departments and agencies asking to help people who want to go abroad for work. People’s Council has adopted policies to support laborers; accordingly, laborers receive a number of subsidized benefits: “pre-migration” training on social and work conditions abroad, medical check-up fee, and eligibility for pre-departure and loans.
The employment service center will provide information of labor market, work training and language education.
Thanks to careful preparation for laborers, enterprises in foreign countries favor workers from Dong Thap. Next time, the province will build brand name of its laborers to promote labor export more.
At present, the province has nearly 4,000 people to work abroad who send VND1,200 billion home annually. The province will continue promote labor export amongst high school graduates who wished not to study, unemployed university graduates and demobilized soldiers.
