Investigation carried out on major general’s death

Traffic police in the Mekong delta province of Hau Giang yesterday transferred all documents of a traffic accident causing the death of Major General Pham Minh Thang to the Military Zone 9 for further investigation.

Major General Pham Minh Thang, Deputy Commander of Military Zone 9, has passed away in the motorbike accident.
 
Lieutenant General Vo Van Tuan, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, said Major General Thang, 55, died in the accident on October 3rd after being hit by a trailer truck in Hau Giang Province.
 
According to police officers in Chau Thanh A District, Hau Giang Province, the truck driven by Ha Van Giang, 25, from the northern province of Thanh Hoa collided with the motorbike driven by senior lieutenant-colonel Tran Van Khoi and Major General Thang sat behind Khoi on the motorbike.

The accident occurred on National Highway 61 in the district.
 
Major General Thang was heavily injured and quickly taken to Military Hospital 121 in neighboring city of Can Tho, but he could not get through. Senior lieutenant-colonel Tran Van Khoi was being treated in the hospital. Driver Ha Van Giang was freed on bail by his family for further investigation.
 
The military official’s body was carried home in Chau Thanh A district in the evening.
 
The death of Major General Thang is a great loss to Military Zone 9.
