The environment protection police in Binh Duong Province under the Ministry of Public Security along with the provincial forest protection department on July 4 handed over six gibbons to the Wildlife Rescue Center in Cu Chi District of Ho Chi Minh City, for releasing into the wild.
Earlier the above officials had conducted an unscheduled inspection of some local farms that were raising rare wild animals.
At a farm managed by a woman named Nguyen Thi Diep Hong in Cay San Hamlet in Lai Uyen Commune of Ben Cat District, inspectors uncovered six rare gibbons being raised illegally. These species belonged to Group IB, which are on the critically endangered list.
Hong could not produce any certificate of the animal’s legal origin. Inspectors then raided a farm of Nguyen Hue in Lai Uyen Commune in Ben Cat District and discovered three illegally captured peacocks belonging to Group IB, and 18 adult spotted deer.
On the same day, inspectors detected many rare animals being illegally raised at Huong Dong Restaurant in Thu Dau Mot City of Binh Duong Province owned by Ho Minh Tam.
