The National Commission on AIDS, Drugs and Prostitution plans to step up measures to raise public awareness on HIV/AIDS, provide effective medical treatment, crackdown on woman and child sex abuse, human trafficking and prostitution rings
The commission met in Hanoi to review the first six months of 2011 and introduce tasks for the next two quarters.
Statistics from the three ministries of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, Health and Public Security show that as of June 2011, there were 190,902 HIV-infected people, 46,056 of who had AIDS.
The figures for the first 6 months of this year from 35 provinces and cities show 6,146 HIV-infected people, with 2,477 AIDS patients and 844 deaths, substantially lower than the same period last year.
The commission concluded that the fight against HIV/AIDS, drugs and prostitution still encountered many challenges. All citizens should take part in the program “HIV/AIDS prevention strategy for 2011-2015” to lend support to the cause.
