The Ho Chi Minh City Association of Victims of Agent Orange held its first conference on Monday to introduce and award organizations and individuals for their continued support in looking after victims of Agent Orange.
The awardees included doctors and nurses working in 2nd Hoa Binh Village of Tu Du Hospital, instructors and students of HCMC University of Foreign Languages and Information Technology, the Korean Veterans Association and more than 100 other foreign and domestic organizations.
The HCMC Association of Victims of Agent Orange has spent more than VND4 billion (US$200,000) to support victims of Agent Orange.
Although there are thousands of Agent Orange victims in HCMC, yet only about 2,000 or so are lucky to receive help from the government.
At the conference, Hua Ngoc Thuan, vice chairman of the city People’s Committee expressed his appreciation of the tireless efforts made by the HCMC Association of Victims of Agent Orange and appealed to all organizations in Vietnam and overseas to help victims of Agent Orange to live healthy and useful lives.
Thuan also suggested hastening the building of Orange Village, a specialized treatment and rehabilitation center for victims of Agent Orange.
