The HCMC People’s Committee proposed the Prime Minister to approve the policy of building one more bridge over Saigon River under BT (Build-Operate) form and permit the city to choose investors on Thursday.

The bridge is expected to be named Thu Thiem 4. The proposal was also sent to the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Planning and Investment.
The 2.16 kilometer long bridge is designed to have six lanes, connecting Districts 7 and 2. Investment capital is estimated to reach VND5.2 trillion (US$229.32 million), according to Tuoi Tre Newspaper.
In addition, the committee also sought the Government’s approval to change the detailed plan of southeast seaport group (group 5). The plan has been issued for the phase by 2010 and visions to 2020.
According to the proposal, the plan will be changed toward removing quays from the Saigon river to Hiep Phuoc seaport complex in Nha Be district.
Companies proposing the removal will build new seaports at Hiep Phuoc and relocate Tan Thuan seaport. The current area of Tan Thuan seaport will see a function shift into a new one suiting the city’s common plan.
