Police also wiped out 352 criminal gangs, according to results announced by the City Public Security Department in HCMC at a regular conference on June 12 to discuss crimes in the first six months.

In the economic field, from the beginning of the year the economic police discovered 846 cases violating regulations that amounted to total damages of nearly VND160 billion, and tax evasion cases of over VND1 trillion.

However, the police stressed that it needs to focus on emerging illicit activities by foreign gangs, and the increase in transport of synthetic drugs via Tan Son Nhat Airport in HCMC.

Another crime on the increase is that of drug gangs hiring Vietnamese women to transport large quantities of drugs from the Middle East. These gangs are becoming more and more professional and sophisticated by the day, and expanding their network widely.

Speaking at the meeting, City Chairman Le Hoang Quan praised the results achieved in recent times and believed that the city police force was fighting crime quite effectively, besides also reducing traffic accidents and accelerating the movement of people to protect national security.

From the end of this year, the city police will strictly campaign for the Party Central Resolution 4 on “a number of pressing issues of the Party in the current period” the city mayor added.

He regarded this as one of the key contents of political activities in the police force.

On this occasion, 13 groups and individuals of the City Police had the honor of receiving third-rank feat of arms Medal of the State President Truong Tan Sang and Merit Credit of Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.
