As scheduled, Former U.S President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle Obama visit the Southeast Asian country from December 8 to 11 in the framework of visits to some Asian nations.
They visited Vietnam to talk about the Girls Opportunity Alliance under the Obama Foundation which help to fight against illiteracy amongst juvenile girls and women from the grass root by creating chances for them to grasp and pursuit their dreams through education.
In the reception, Chief Nhan welcomed the former US President’s visit affirming that the visit has shown former US President and his wife’s deep concern to the bilateral relation generally and Vietnam’s growth particularly.
Since the two countries have normalized the diplomatic relations, leaders of Vietnam and the US have paid more visits especially General Secretary of the Communist Party Nguyen Phu Trong’s first visit to the US in 2015 and Barack Obama’s official visit to Vietnam as the President of the US in 2016.
Party Boss Nhan highly spoke of Mr. Barack Obama’s contribution as the US President to the bilateral relation. In 2013, the two countries agreed on a comprehensive partnership with nine key areas of co-operation, including politics, economics, defense and security, science and technology, education, war legacies and humanitarian co-operation.
Mr. Nhan expected Mr. Obama to continue paying attention and promoting the bilateral relation in the upcoming time especially when the two countries are going to celebrate 25 years of the normalization of Vietnam-US trade relations.
Mr. Nhan said that Ho Chi Minh City is renovating much with the aim to be the country’s economic hub. He highly appreciated Mr. Obama’s contribution to the establishment of Fulbright University in Vietnam believing that the university will greatly help the city’s growth.
Simultaneously, Mr. Nhan lauded Mr. Obama and his wife’s effort in promoting education especially for girls and women of the grass root expecting that the Obama Foundation will have more project to help localities’ development in Vietnam.
On his part, Mr. Obama thanked the government of Vietnam and the administration of Ho Chi Minh City to help his visit. He showed his delight at the good relation between the two countries as well as the city’s policies and present growth.
He expressed his belief on the city’s top priority on training, climate adaption and traffic which will help the city’s sustainable development in particular and Vietnam in general.
Mr. Obama affirmed to cultivate the relationships between Vietnam – the US and Ho Chi Minh Cty- the US as well as to play as a bridge to introduce Vietnam to the US enterprises especially startup enterprises. He promised to return Vietnam in a short time.
On the same day, former US First Lady Michelle Obama and representatives of the Girls Opportunity Alliance under the Obama Foundation, paid a visit to the Can Giuoc School in the Mekong Delta province of Long An. Accompanying Michelle Obama were US actress Julia Roberts, and Lana Condor and Vietnamese actress Ngo Thanh Van.
At the Can Giuoc Senior High School, former US First Lady Michelle Obama met representatives of non-profit organizations in the field of education to discuss solution to help and develop juvenile girls in Vietnam.
