Mr. Phong appreciated the Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership relationship which has developed in many fields.
Last year, export turnover between Vietnam and the US reached US$8.2 billion. The US continued being the largest export market and the fourth largest import market of HCMC.
In January this year, the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on building an emergency response center for HCMC.
HCMC successfully organized a dialogue with American firms in health field in June of the same year.
At the working session, head of the delegation Ian Steff, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Manufacturing at the U.S. Department of Commerce, and chairman Nguyen Thanh Phong discussed cooperation plans in the upcoming time in fields namely smart city, health, environment and commerce.
Informing Mr. Phong of a seminar on Vietnam-US cooperation in electrification and infrastructure development for liquefied natural gas (LNG) hosted in the city on the same day, Mr. Steff said that USTDA has announced its intention to assist Vietnam Electricity (EVN) to develop an LNG port in the southern region.
