At a meeting of the transport department, Mr. Hung said that the construction department and independent units are also expected to find measures to resolve this issue by August 22.

Meanwhile, the Department of Transport will discuss repair works that will have to be carried out, with the Transport Engineering Design Company, Nam Cuong Group, who is an investor in the Le Van Luong Street project and Song Da-Thang Long Company who is investor in the U Silk City apartment block building that is being built alongside the sunken stretch of the street.

At the meeting, Nam Cuong and Song Da-Thang Long both tried to pass the buck and blamed the other for what led to the road subsiding. However, the causes will be made clear by August 22, said Mr. Hung.

According to the transport department, a day after the road caved in, drains in the area have burst causing wastewater to overflow into the dug up foundation of the nearby construction site of U Silk City apartment block building, and it is feared that the sunken area may broaden or subside further.
