Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index strongly rebounded on July 20 thanks to support from blue-chip stocks.
The shares of 292 companies and five closed-end funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange jumped 1.62 percent, or 6.65 points, to close at 416.77 points.
Among the index members, 146 increased, 70 dropped, while 81 remained unchanged.
Trading on the city bourse improved by 28 percent in volume, and 46 percent in value over the previous trading session as 21.36 million shares changed hands at a value of VND401 billion.
Bac Giang Exploitable Mineral Joint Stock Company (BGM) was the most active share by volume with 1.59 million shares changing hands.
Saigon Thuong Tin Joint Stock Commercial Bank or Sacombank (STB), the fourth largest listed lender, dropped to the second rank with 1.49 million shares.
It was followed by Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI), the country’s largest brokerage, with 974,420 shares traded.
Ca Mau Frozen Seafood Processing Import Export Corporation (CMX) strengthened the daily maximum allowed limit of 5 percent to close at VND6,300.
Tu Liem Urban Development Joint Stock Company (NTL) recovered 4.93 percent to VND21,300.
Seafood Joint Stock Company No4 (TS4) snapped its three-day losing streak, adding up 4.92 percent to VND12,800.
Interfood Shareholding Company (IFS) plummeted 5 percent to VND7,600.
Imexpharm Corporation (IMP) retreated 4.99 percent to close at VND43,800.
House Vietnam Joint Stock Company (NVN) dropped 4.92 percent to VND11,600.
The Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller in the north capped its five-consecutive-trading-session losing streak, closing up 1.34 percent, or 0.95 points, to close at 71.69 points. Trading on the northern market rose by 17.62 percent in volume and 30.28 percent in value over the previous trading session as 22.35 million shares changed hands at VND250.68 billion.
The UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares inched up 0.03 percent, or 0.01 points, to 32.08 points. A total of 89,670 shares changed hands at a value of VND535 million as of 2 pm local time.
