The People’s Court in Hanoi on Monday placed 25-year-old Ho Thi Thanh Tuyen on 15 months’ probation for holding up air traffic on July 9.
Tuyen was a passenger on Vietnam Airlines flight VN 1565 from Hanoi to Da Lat City on July 9. As the flight was beginning to take off, she told the steward on the plane that there was a bomb in her cabin baggage.
The steward informed the chief stewardess who then alerted the captain. The flight carrying 171 passengers was temporarily halted for a thorough inspection for detection of a bomb.
Flight VN 1565 was finally cleared for takeoff three hours behind schedule.
At the courts, Tuyen said that she had just joked about a bomb in her baggage and did not at that time think of the consequences or repercussions of her act.
The court then let her off on a 15 month probation and a compensation of VND100 million (US$4,762) for losses incurred by Vietnam Airlines.
