Drenching rains continued swelling rivers and stranding many areas together with thousands of households in Quang Ngai and Binh Dinh provinces, where four were reported dead on December 8.
According to the Natural Disaster Prevention Agency for the central region and Central Highland, big flooding has lengthened for a week putting thousands of households in low-lying areas in a shortage of fresh water and food.
Quang Ngai province has recorded two dead and Binh Dinh reported two so far.
In Quang Ngai, communes in the lower course of the Ve River in Mo Duc and Tu Nghia districts have been completely isolated, marooning 2,000 households and paralyzing local streets.
In the northern bank of the river, all streets leading to Nghia Hiep, Nghia My and Nghia Trung communes have lied under 0.5-1 meter of floodwater. Similarly, approach roads to Duc Nhuan, Duc Loi and Duc Thang communes have been paralyzed in the southern bank. Thirty households have been evacuated from vulnerable riverside areas.
Quang Ngai province has proposed the Government to provide 300 tons of rice to relieve flood victims and financial assistance for resuming winter spring crop production.
In Binh Dinh, many areas have been submerged under 1-2 meters of floodwaters and traffic has been cut off in Hoai Nhon, An Phuoc, An Lao, Hoai An, Tuy Phuoc and Phu Cat districts. Twenty communes have been stranded.
A span of Binh Long Bridge has been sunken isolating Binh Long and Tang Hoa hamlets, Canh Vinh commune, Van Canh district for the last many days.
The National Hydro Meteorological Forecasting Center last night forecast that rains will quickly reduce in the central region today December 9.
The southern East Sea including the Truong Sa (Spratly) Islands and the waters off provinces from Binh Thuan to Ca Mau will continue to be choppy with rains and thunderstorms.
