Colonel Nguyen Hoc Thu from the Ministry of Public Security on August 6 said that a convicted murderer named Nguyen Anh Tuan has been the first prisoner to be executed by lethal injection in the country.

Nguyen Anh Tuan, 27, hailing from Me Linh District in Hanoi, was charged for the murder of 32-year-old Bui Thi Nguyet, an employee at a petrol filling station.
The People’s Court in Hanoi had pronounced the death sentence on January 20, 2010 for two charges of murder and robbery.
Nguyen Anh Tuan was administered three intravenous injections for anesthesia, paralyzing of the nervous and muscle system, and stopping the heart rate.
After two hours, the lethal injection took effect and the convict’s body was released to his family for burial.
At present, the country has more than 580 prisoners on death row, of which 170 meet criteria for immediate execution by lethal injection.
