A huge fire on May 1 gutted the entire Nga Sau Market in Chau Thanh District in Hau Giang Province.
The fire is said to have started at 2.30 am and quickly spread across the entire market. Because the market contained many combustible materials, flames spread rapidly and became difficult to douse, although fire fighters, local residents and the police struggled to put out the flames.
Truong Canh Tuyen, chairman of the People's Committee of Chau Thanh District, said that at the initial count the destruction was the maximum in 44 kiosks, along with massive amount of goods that had been destroyed.
He added that the cause of the fire could have been due to an electric short circuit. Losses due to the fire are being estimated at VND3 billion.
