Fatherland Front gives aids to flooded Mekong Delta

The Central Committee of Vietnam Fatherland Front decided on Friday to transfer VND3.5 billion (US$166,000) to eight provinces and cities of the Mekong Delta that are the worst affected by the current floods.

An Giang Province will receive VND1 billion, Dong Thap VND700 million and Kien Giang VND500 million.

Tien Giang, Hau Giang Provinces and Can Tho City will receive VND300 million each. Long An and Vinh Long Provinces will get VND200 million each.

The above financial aid will compensate families of dead victims and help in rebuilding damaged or totally destroyed homes.

According to the National Hydro Meteorological Forecasting Center, excessive flooding on Friday killed 18 people, inundated 50,700 houses and caused complete devastation of about 6,600 hectares of rice crops.

Floods also destroyed over 3,000 hectares of vegetable crops, 646 kilometers of dykes and caused landslides over 775 kilometers of roadways.
