The reserve, hailed as ‘the lung of Mekong Delta,’ spans 2,800 hectares and is home to over 500 kinds of plants and animals, some of which appear on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
Moreover, the Lung Ngoc Hoang is the home of 330 plants with vessel, also called trachea, which the most specialized and efficient conducting structure of xylem (fluid-conducting tissues) in botany; many of them can grow in saltwater.
Additionally, 206 terrestrial vertebrate animal are living in the nature reserve and 77 species of fish
Especially, the reserve is comprising of other nature reserves such as Lung Chuoi Nuoc, Lung Tran, Lung Ba Dia, and Lung Sen.
