With the aim to train skilled workers who can integrate with local and international labor markets, the city decide to add English into the curriculum and the final exams of students who enrolled in four-year and two-year programs at colleges and technical institutes.
Students at these educational institutes also learn another foreign language in addition to English in preparation for labor export.
As per the plan, from now to 2020, the city will supply 461,000 skilled workers for the labor market annually. This plan aims to help the workforce with adaptation and integration into the domestic and international labor markets.
To avoid shortage of skilled blue-collar workers while abundant unemployed university students, the Committee asked relevant agencies to work with schools for employment orientation at junior and senior high schools.
Two years from now, at least 30 percent of secondary graduates are expected to choose a two-year program and 30 percent of high school graduates will enroll in four-year programs in colleges in HCMC.
In coordination with vocational training institutes, high schools also host many activities attract more students.
