A flock of nearly 100 Lophura Diardi pheasants, also known as Diard’s Fireback, has been discovered in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park in the northern-central province of Quang Binh.
The park’s management board said June 15 that the Lophura Diardi, listed in Red Books of the world and Vietnam as endangered species, belongs to the Fasianidae family and that mature individual birds may weigh over one kilogram.
A group of researchers, who photographed the pheasants for the first time via hidden camera, said that they were amazed to see so many pheasants in an area densely populated by humans.
The pheasants are likely to grow well and develop, the researchers said.
