By year end food demand usually increases and concerned agencies for food safety and hygiene are kept busy with checking of various kinds of food items.
Nguyen Nhu Tiep, Head of Department of Agro-Forestry-Fishery Quality Assurance, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, said concerned agencies in the North detected Campybacter in chicken meat items. Bacteria of the genus Campylobacter causes Campylobacteriosis, an infectious disease. Most people who become ill with campylobacteriosis get diarrhea, cramps and abdominal pain.
Concerned agencies also found high levels of chloramphenicol và furazolidon and tetracycline in many food items.
Inspectors from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development also found some local pig-rearing households using Beta-Agonist, a banned lean meat enhancing drug.
Nguyen Thi Xuan Thu, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, said vegetable farmers prefer using illegal pesticides and dubious chemicals. She therefore asked relevant agencies to step up inspections on farm products, including local and imported agricultural produce.
Cao Duc Phat, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, has asked related agencies to enhance supervision of poultry, cattle meat and vegetables in slaughter houses and wholesale markets across the country.
