Diabetes on the rise in Vietnam

According to the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), as many as 3.16 million people in Vietnam, or 5.29 percent of the population, were suffering from diabetes in 2012.

According to the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), as many as 3.16 million people in Vietnam, or 5.29 percent of the population, were suffering from diabetes in 2012.

 

This figure was released at a convention on prevention of Diabetes in 2013, held by the Ministry of Health, the Diabetes Endocrinology Metabolism Association and Novo Nordisk in response to World Diabetes Day on November 14.

The convention aims at raising people’s awareness of diabetes, which is on the increase in the country.

According to IDF Diabetes Atlas, the above 3.16 million diabetics are in the age group from 20 to 79.
