In a dispatch released recently by the Government Office, Mr. Hai urged the authorities to also strengthen enforcement and punish traffic violations.

The city should mobilize all resources to speed up traffic works to put them into use on schedule, he said.

The city should set up automatic road-toll collection systems and modernize its bus fleet by operating vehicles that are appropriate to street sizes and run on environment-friendly fuels like LPG and CNG, he advised.

He also asked the authorities to tighten regulations on licensing of taxi companies, keep taxi numbers in check, and improve their service quality.

The city should limit the use of motorbikes by encouraging people to use public transport, he said.

The dispatch approved the city’s policy to charge vehicles entering certain main to reduce the high traffic density there.

It also ordered relevant ministries to find ways to limit the use of private vehicles in major urban hubs like Hanoi and HCM City and draft regulations to collect toll from them.
