During the festival titled ‘Youth for motherland’s sea and islands’ in Phu Yen Province on 13th October, 148 delegates and former crew members from ‘Journey along the Ho Chi Minh Sea Trail’ also participated.
Colonel Nguyen Duc Nho, deputy head of the delegation said that this festival meant a great deal for the crew members of the historic Ho Chi Minh Sea Trail who undertook dangerous journey’s on secret vessels to transport goods during the US-Vietnam war to six ports within the country.
The festival event helped the delegates to exchange past memories and recall the difficulties and hardships they faced for the cause of liberating the South and unifying the country.
It is a solemn occasion to learn more about the nation’s history and the revolutionary fight led by the previous generation and also encourage the spirit of independence and will to defend Vietnam’s territorial sovereignty of its sea and islands, said Colonel Nho.
On this occasion, delegates presented three saving accounts, worth VND3million each, to needy families of former crew members of the secret Sea Trail vessels.
Phu Yen Province also presented six gifts, worth VND500,000 each, to six war veterans who were part of the crew aboard the secret vessels.
