According to the Ho Chi Minh City’s Statistics Office, the city’s consumer price index (CPI) in December dropped 0.11 percent compared to the previous month.
In comparison to December last year, the city’s CPI declined 0.2 percent; however, average CPI of this year was 0.25 percent higher than that of last year.
Five out of 11 commodity groups fell over the previous month. Transport saw the highest drop of 1.83 percent, household appliances lost 1.23 percent, culture and entertainment decreased 0.58 percent, restaurants and catering services slid 0.17 percent, and apparels, hats, and footwear went down 0.01 percent.
Especially, in restaurants and catering services group, foodstuffs sank 0.26 percent, and rations cut 0.09 percent.
The main reason that caused these groups of commodities to drop is several cuts in petrol and gas prices during the month.
Meanwhile, five other groups of commodities saw increases in price, including education with 0.04 percent, beverage and tobacco with 0.14 percent, pharmaceuticals and health services with 0.18 percent, goods and other services with 0.41 percent, and housing, electricity, water, fuel, and building materials with 0.6 percent.
