City to streamline traffic along 159 Streets

The Ho Chi Minh City district authorities have pledged with the City People’s Committee to tackle with immediate effect all illegal vendors and parking lots, so as to streamline vehicular traffic along 159 Streets of the city, said Le Toan, deputy director of the Department of Transport on Tuesday.

Speaking at a meeting to review traffic law and order in the city, Mr. Toan said that so far, implementation of measures have been quite effective on 43 of the Streets. Relevant authorities are continuing to resolve various issues along the remaining 116 Streets.

Traffic inspectors from the Department of Transport will further crackdown on illegal parking lots along these streets, especially on spaces occupied by taxis.

The department will also examine and instruct schools, foreign language centres and trade centres to curb traffic jams in their surrounding areas, or have their licence revoked, said Mr. Toan.

Nguyen Huu Tin, deputy chairman of the City People’s Committee has asked each district to give a specific time frame to clear pavements and streets, or they will be held responsible for lax implementation.

Ha Phuoc Thang, deputy chairman of the People’s Committee in District 3 said that the city Police Department should supplement with more manpower and work along with districts to tackle traffic law violators.

While authorities in District 2 expressed there concern with lack of facilities to nab traffic violators.
