Ceramic arts Bau Truc recognized national intangible cultural heritage

A ceremony was held yesterday by the People’s Committee in the central province of Ninh Thuan to receive a certificate in recognition of the ceramic making arts of Cham ethnic minority group in Bau Truc village as the nation’s intangible cultural heritage.

The pottery village in Ninh Phuoc District with 400 households making pottery goods makes up 70 percent of the Cham population in the area. There are one cooperative and 12 manufacturers of pottery offering 600 employment with average income of VND 2 - 3 million per person a month.
Village artisans make pottery products as per market demand. Their products with some special and unique flower patterns are favored by local and international customers. To support the pottery village, the government spent over VND10 billion building electricity system, roads, exhibition house and opening courses to teach next generation to make pottery products to develop the traditional handicraft.
The Minister of Culture , Sports and Tourism issued a decision to recognize the ceramic making arts of Cham ethnic minority in Bau Truc village as national intangible cultural heritage on June, 20, 2017.
