The people’s committee in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho yesterday granted a Chinese firm investment certificate to build a VND1 trillion (US$44 million) solid waste treatment plant in Thoi Lai district.
Investor China Everbright International Company will build 50 hectare Thoi Lai plant using European technology for burning garbage to produce electricity in Truong Xuan commune.
The plant is expected to start construction in February next year and be built within one year to handle about 400 tons of household garbage a day.
The Can Tho People’s Committee said that it had considered the ability of some investors and decided to choose the Chinese firm after sending a delegation of officials to China to do field survey over the company’s technology.
