Blue-chip stocks prop up market

The measure which tracks 303 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange rose 0.58 percent, or 2.5 points, to close at 435.59 points.

Across the benchmark, 146 stocks climbed, 93 fell, and 69 remained unchanged.

Trading on the city bourse dropped by nearly 18.5 percent in volume, and 31.5 percent in value over the previous trading session as more than 59.24 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND900.42 billion.

Tan Tao Investment Industrial Joint Stock Company (ITA) was most active share in volume with 3.52 million shares changing hands.

Kinh Bac City Development Share Holding Corporation (KBC) followed with 2.86 million shares.

Saigon Thuong Tin Joint Stock Commercial Bank or Sacombank (STB) dropped to third place with 2.8 million shares traded.

Power Engineering Consulting Joint Stock Company 1 (TV1) rescued 5 percent to close at VND8,400.

Development Investment Construction Joint Stock Company (DIG) and Duc Thanh Wood Processing Joint Stock Company (GDT) both enhanced 4.97 percent to close at VND19,000.

Ha Do Group Joint Stock Company (HDG) edged up for three straight days, winning 4.9 percent to close at VND21,400.

DIC Investment & Trading Joint Stock Company (DIC) plummeted 14.17 percent to close at VND10,300. The company will pay dividends for the year 2011 in cash at a ratio of 10 percent and give bonus shares at a ratio of 10 on July 18.

Thac Mo Hydro Power Joint Stock Company (TMP) blocked 10.08 percent to close at VND10,700.

National Seed Joint Stock Company (NSC) reverted 4.96 percent to close at VND38,300.

The VN30 Index - a free-float adjusted, market cap-weighted index of 30 stocks with the highest market value and liquidity on the exchange – gained 2.87 points, or 0.57 percent, to end at 510.81. Among its 30 members, 17 stocks rallied, 8 weakened, and 5 were unchanged.

Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller bourse in the north inched up 0.08 percent, or 0.06 points, to close at 74.9 points with 121 winners, 80 losers, and 100 stocks stalling. Around 47.8 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND493.38 billion.

Meanwhile, the UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares curtailed 0.16 percent, or 0.06 points, to close at 36.42 points. A total of 480,449 shares changed hands at VND4.13 billion.
