The authorities in the southern provinces of Binh Phuoc and Dong Nai, the Central Highlands provinces of Lam Dong granted consent to sand exploitation in the Dong Nai River after a halt.
The 437-kilometer Dong Nai River originates in the Central Highlands Province of Lam Dong and flows through Dak Nong, Binh Phuoc, Dong Nai, Binh Duong, HCMC, Long An and Tien Giang provinces. The Saigon and Thi Vai rivers are among its tributaries.
Additionally, the three provinces reached at an agreement that each province will just grant two new license of sand exploitation in the river’s bordering crossing including Da Hoai River.
Each permission is valid for five years with maximum volume of 10,000 meter cubic per annum. Sand mining activities must be carried out far from residential areas without impact on the national park Nam Cat Tien.
To deter people from illicitly mining sand, police officers have been given the green light to track violators who flee away to neighboring provinces.
