Six workers suffered serious burns when a steam boiler exploded at a paper company in An Lao District in the northern city of Hai Phong on Monday.
Le Tat Thang and Le Thi Lan were the most severely burnt and rushed to Viet Tiep Hospital. Thang suffered 60 per cent burns all over his body.
Four other workers, Doan Van Van, Tran Van Thuong, Le Van Hoan and Tran Thi Quynh suffered mild burns and were taken to the General Hospital Kien An in An Lao District.
Vu Khac Long, Director of the My Huong Paper Joint Stock Company, blamed carelessness by workers as cause of the explosion. Water in the boiler must have reduced and the operator-in-charge, Doan Van Van, paid no heed to the rising temperature.
Consequently, sudden increase in heat pressure inside the boiler could have caused the explosion.
On the same day, an explosion occurred at the Huy Po welding store on Le Hong Phong Street in the central highland town of Da Lat.
The explosion blew off the roof of the store and damaged furniture. Moreover, a part of the gas container weighing ten kilograms flew off a distance of 30 meters and fell on a house at 5 Le Hong Phong Street, injuring a young man inside the house.
