The 7th Ho Chi Minh City Book Festival organised by the City People’s Committee will be held from March 19-25 at the Le Van Tam Cultural Park in District 1, displaying over 20 million books from domestic as well as foreign publishers.
The festival will be the largest book festival ever hosted in HCMC, attended by 160 businesses and publishers. Over 200,000 book titles are expected to be on display at the festival, at a 10 per cent discount.
During three days from March 23-25, books will be available at 80 per cent discount.
Kim Dong Publishing House has announced that it will introduce a reprint of the well-known ‘Kinh Van Hoa’ (Kaleidoscope) story series, with better jacket and print.
The Kim Dong Publishing House will also present the book ‘Bien Vang Dao Ngoc (Golden Sea and Pearl Islands), a collection of prose and verse for children by renowned writers like Khai Hung, Nguyen Tuan and Nguyen Huy Tuong.
Phan Thi Publishing House will introduce the latest comic books. The company has adapted the famous literary work ‘Chiec Luoc Nga’ (The Ivory Comb) into a comic book.
Tre Publishing House will bring in ‘Van Hoc Mien Nam Luc Tinh’ (Literature of the southern region) by author Nguyen Van Hau. Besides also the book ‘An Com Moi Noi Chuyen Cu: Hau Giang Ba Thac’' (Eating new rice-Telling old tales) by writer Vuong Hong Sen.
Van Hoa Van Nghe Publishing House will participate in the event for the first time by introducing a book series by young writers in HCMC.
Tong Hop Publishing House will offer historical books like ‘Nhung Thien Than Duong Pho’ (Street Angels), a story of female fighters in war against America; and the book series ‘Giai Thoai Lich Su Viet Nam’ (Ana of Vietnam’s history) which includes eight volumes of simple stories about the country’s history.
The book festival will also hold several interesting cultural activities, book seminars and exchanges between writers and readers.
A total of 22 exchanges have been scheduled bringing for readers an opportunity to talk with young writers in HCMC, with real characters in the “Street Angels” book, with Professor Tran Van Khe about school books and writer and artist Dan Mach about comic books for children.
An exhibition of rare books, books about Uncle Ho and Vietnam’s sea and islands will also be on display during the book festival.
