At the headquarter of the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs in Hanoi, Bao Viet Insurance Corporation and the National Fund for Vietnamese Children yesterday signed an agreement in helping needy students.
As per the agreement " Hoc bong an sinh giao duc- Xe dap den truong 2015" ( Giving scholarships - Bikes to schools), 1,200 bikes will be given to needy but hard-working students worth VND2.3 billion (US$105,514)
According to the Ministry's statistics, every year, more than 200,000 children in disadvantaged districts drop schools because of poverty and long distance from their houses to schools. Their families are so poor that their parents can not afford textbooks let alone a bike. Many kids have to walk a distance of 5-10 kilometer to schools.
So they have to wake up at 4PM to walk to schools; consequently it has badly influenced to their studying results and their future. The scholarships have helped kids from low-income families to continue studying.
After 10 year of cooperation, through the National Fund for Vietnamese Children, Nhan Viet Insurance Corporation has offered nearly 9,000 scholarships and 12,000 gifts worth approximately VND7billion (US$321,090) to poor students in 63 cities and provinces in the country.
