Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) March 10 announced that around 1,000 master’s degree-holders would enroll in Ph.D. programs abroad this year with the help of domestic and foreign financial assistance.
Around 800 of the students will receive funding from the State budget while the rest will receive foreign government scholarships and grants from international organizations.
Candidates will pursue doctoral degrees in the fields of technology, social sciences, economics, arts, sports, medicine, agriculture, forestry and aquatic sectors.
On the same day, MoET released a list of 98 students who will receive funding from the State budget to enroll in universities abroad.
Most are students who have received national or international recognition for demonstrating academic excellence, or who have achieved high scores on university entrance exams.
MoET and other agencies March 10 also launched a campaign titled “Ensuring educational quality” with total capital of US$186 million, of which $127 million was provided through a World Bank loan.
The campaign aims to improve academic quality in primary schools throughout the country.
In addition, the project calls for the construction of an additional 4,650 classrooms and regular pay bonuses for some 2,500 teachers in Vietnam.
