The four-day-old baby boy  named Nguyen Huu Hoang, from Dong Hung District in the northern province of Thai Binh, was born with atrophy in the left ventricle of the heart.

The baby weighed 2.1 kilograms at birth after only 38 weeks of gestation.

Earlier in similar cases, it had been difficult to save a patient. However, the hospital management called for help of many doctors in various departments and fields of expertise before conducting the operation.

After six hours surgery, doctors were able to save the life of the young patient who is now on the way to recovery.

The hospital is now already well-known for saving many other lives earlier. Doctors here had performed a complex surgery to save Nguyen Tra My, a two and a half month old girl child from the southern province of Binh Phuoc.

Her left heart ventricle had two lines; black blood in the right side of her heart and red blood in the left, both flowing into the left ventricle.

According to Dr. Liem, the fact that Vietnamese heart surgeons can save two extremely complex heart cases proves their high capability and expertise in performing heart operations and mastery of the   technique.
