The 9th National Conference on Nuclear Science and Technology was held in Phan Rang-Thap Cham City in Ninh Thuan Province on August 18.
More than 300 Vietnamese and foreign scientists from leading nuclear companies of Japan, Russia, France, America, China, Canada and Bulgaria were present at the event.
According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, electricity demand in Vietnam, under the basic plan will be 294 billion kWh by 2020 and 526 billion kWh by 2030. The present capacity from Vietnam's electricity company will be able to produce only 230 billion kWh by 2020 and 293 billion kWh by 2030.
Therefore, nuclear power as one of the solutions viewed for the national development of countries throughout the world.
The Nuclear Power Project in Ninh Thuan Province will include two nuclear plants of 4,000 MW capacity, construction of which will kick off in late 2013. The first turbine will be operational in 2020.
The National Conference was jointly organized by the Vietnam Atomic Energy Society, the Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute and the Department of Science and Technology of Ninh Thuan Province.
