Viet Nam Football Picks Its Top Performers

Le Cong Vinh topped Viet Nam Football newspaper’s 2007 poll for outstanding male footballer with 26,477 votes to receive VND25 million (US$1,562).

Vinh, born December 10, 1985, was on the Song Lam Nghe An Team as a striker and is now a member of the Viet Nam National Football Team. 

 

In 2007, with Viet Nam ranked third at the 2007 ASEAN Football championships, Vinh prowess was highlighted. He remains a favorite of so-called foreign experts, having scored three times during his qualifying matches for the Men’s Olympic Football Tournament Beijing 2008, including the only goal in the match against Indonesia.

 

Known as the fastest player in South-East Asia, he was also the most feared striker at the 24th Southeast Asian Games, scoring every match. 

 

Vinh also has many personal awards to his credit, the Golden Ball in 2004 and 2006, Silver Ball in 2005, All-Time V-League 2004 Goal-scorer, All-Time Ho Chi Minh City Cup 2004 Goal-scorer and Viet Nam’s Outstanding Footballers 2004.

 

Female footballer Doan Thi Kim Chi earned the 2007 Viet Nam’s Outstanding Women Footballer Award with 8,632 votes to receive VND20 million (US$1,250). 

 

Le Thuy Hai, B.Binh Duong’s coach, won 15,456 votes to receive the title “Viet Nam’s Outstanding Football Coach, 2007” and an award of VND25 million (US$1,562).
