Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has already selected a capable coach to lead the Vietnamese national male football team after Calisto resigned.
VFF chairman Nguyen Trong Hy told the press that decision has already been made but the official announcement will only be made on April 15.
VFF is negotiating with this new coach regarding labor contract.
Though Hy refused to reveal his name, it is by now nearly certain that German's Falko Goetz, 49 will take the helm.
Goetz is described as a qualified coach who introduces a coaching style that suits Vietnamese football. In addition, he suggests an acceptable salary rate, according to a source close to the Vietnam’s football governing body.
Goetz managed German elite club Hertha Berlin from 2004-07. In his competition career, he played as a forward for FCs Dynamo, Bayer Leverkusen, Galatasaray and Hertha Berlin.
The seat of Vietnam’s coach has been left empty since early March after the resignation of Portuguese coach Henrique Calisto, who had cited unfair public criticism by Vietnamese media against him and his men after their failure at the 2010 Suzuki Cup as the main reason.
